Calvin Riggs, owner of Carlysle Motors is known to go hunting for buried treasure in his spare time, but he was amazed when he discovered what he soon realized was Steve McQueen’s original Pontiac Trans Am from the movie Hunter. In the film, McQueen plays a bounty hunter on the chase after bail-jumping criminals but in the end, it turns out another McQueen (of no relation), would wind up picking up the reward for helping to dispose of the car.
After shooting the movie’s classic final sequence (spoiler alert – the car explodes in the end), the director didn’t know what to do with the scrap-pile of a car he had just blown up.
At this point, a local farmer named Harold McQueen offered his barn as a place for them to store the wreckage rather than paying the extra cost to have it cleaned up. After that, he wound up forgetting about the wreck for a large part of his life until after Harold McQueen found proof that the car did, in fact, belong to Steve McQueen. Then, he managed to convince Calvin Riggs to check out the wreck. While it’s clear it’s going to need a total overhaul in terms of appearance and physical parts, once this beauty is up and running again, it should be worth quite a pretty penny.
