Let’s face it, car interiors have gone from simple spaces to ones that are covered in switches and flashing lights for all occasions. In fact, they often now resemble sci-fi interiors rather than the vehicles we are used to. Now, it seems as though the future of head-up displays is 3D.

Paving The Way

Jaguar Land Rover are the ones behind the new head-up displays. The interior will no longer just project written messages, but it will also feature 3D objects in front of the driver. It seems as though all of this car tech is starting to get a little out of this world.

An Immersive Experience

These head-up displays are thought to make driving a more immersive experience for driver. Notifications, such as lane closures and sat-nav directions, will now be projected onto the windscreen where it looks as though the instructions are on the road ahead.

Helping Drivers

Why do we need 3D head-up displays? JLR says that their new design should improve reaction times and means that drivers no longer have to take their attention off the road to look at a screen. Instead, everything they need will be right in front of them.

A Help Or Hindrance?

Could this really just be another way to distract drives? JLR is confident that their new tech will be nothing but a help to drivers. After all, we currently have to look down at screens and use touch controls. Having everything right there could save a lot of distractions – if JLR can pull it off.

Car interiors have been through plenty of changes over the years. Now, it seems that the future of head-up displays no longer stops at the windscreen. No, the 3D objects could be more immersive than ever before. All we can do is sit back and wait to see how JLR pull it off.

Sean Penn has received many accolades for his numerous film performances, often exceeding expectations with each new movie. His romantic endeavors, however, have not been quite so lucky.

Back in the 80s, the relationship between Madonna and a young Sean Penn was highly publicized tabloid fodder. It’s not the details of his tryst with Madonna, however, that raises eyebrows, but the fact that Penn prefers to keep the company of other A-listers. His other partners include both Robin Wright and Charlize Theron.

In the course of his career, Penn has earned himself not one, but two Oscars, as well as a Golden Globe Award on top over over 100 other nominations. He may not have the looks of Bradley Cooper or Justin Timberlake, but Penn has managed to woo his fair share of beautiful celebrity women including his ex-wife, Robin Wright, who has been starring in the hit Netflix show, House of Cards as well as Jessica White, a famous swimsuit model to whom he was linked following his 2009 divorce.

Whatever the tabloids may have promoted during Penn’s marriages, he has been known to commit to his romances as fully as he commits to his roles. In fact, Penn has already been married twice, which shows that he does value steadfast commitment to a single partner, even if his relationships ultimately didn’t work out. Though it was the shorter of the two by far, Penn is most likely best known for his first marriage, rather than his second.

For those who may not remember, Penn first tied the knot to the 80s pop superstar, Madonna. Their romance was famously passionate, as they met in February 1985 and married only seven months afterwards. The marriage took place on Madonna’s birthday, a particularly romantic gesture for anyone who has experienced thrills of a new love. Their relationship seemed like a genuine match made in heaven, as both were already successful artists. Therefore, fans were surprised when the headlines began surface.

Madonna wasn’t Penn’s first high profile relationship, however. Prior to their introduction, Penn had been involved with Elizabeth McGovern, whom he had met on the set of their movie, Racing With The Moon. Penn proposed shortly after meeting her, falling for the beauty instantly. McGovern initially accepted his proposal, but had a change of heart not long after realizing that perhaps she was too inexperienced for marriage. In a later interview, McGovern said, “Married Sean? I think I was the lucky one to do what I did.”

Penn needed a change of pace somewhere around 1996. Rather than go for yet another actress, Penn stepped out with Elle Macpherson, the supermodel who hails from Down Under. The pair was spotted at a restaurant on the Upper East Side of Manhattan according to a report by the New York Post. Penn and Macpherson looked romantic, “They kept going up to the bar, the only place you can smoke in [restaurant] Coco Pazza. They kissed between puffs, and acted like no one else was in the room.”

Shortly after his 2009 divorce, reports began to surface that Penn was seeing the intelligent and talented, Natalie Portman. While allegedly having dinner at the Sunset Tower Hotel, the two appeared to be getting quite cozy but were startled by the paparazzi who were watching the pair like a hawk. Portman quickly announced to E! Online, “The reports that we are romantically involved are completely untrue. I normally do not respond to rumors about my private life, however, this repeatedly fabricated story has forced me to do so.”

Penn didn’t take very much time to heal in the aftermath of his divorce from Madonna. Not long after the split, Penn met Robin Wright, the current star of Netflix’s House of Cards. The new couple weren’t quite so ready to commit to one another for better or worse just yet, as Wright had also been recently divorced after a short lived marriage to a costar of her own. Prior to their eventual marriage, Wright gave birth to two children with Penn.

In 1991, Robin Wright gave birth to the couple’s first child, daughter Dylan Frances. A son soon followed, only two years later. They named baby Hopper Jack for two close friends, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson. The pair seemed to be equally matched, both talented, ambitious, and Wright was intelligent to boot. Though it seemed that they may finally have found some peace as they settled into family life, rocky times were still ahead for Penn and his paramour.

Penn and Wright wouldn’t marry until 1996, following a brief separation. Wright reflected on her marriage to Hollywood’s bad boy, saying “It was…difficult.” They managed to reach a brief period of stasis following their nuptials, but the turbulence soon returned, testing both actors of their patience, but they came to a breaking point roughly a decade after their marriage. Try as they might to stay together, following several separations and subsequent reunions, Wright finally filed for divorce in 2010. Penn Admitted that he has never felt “loved by someone”, but it’s not for a lack of women.

Penn was heartbroken by the separation, often expressing a feeling of betrayal in the interviews he gave following the split. He told Esquire magazine in a candid profile of his career, “When you get divorced, all the truths that come out, you sit there and you go, ‘What was I doing believing that this person was invested in this way?’ Which is a fantastically strong humiliation in the best sense.” He later stated that he felt he had never been loved throughout his previous relationships.

Penn did a major 180 following his second divorce, resorting to heavy partying in order to find dates. “I thought, ‘Wow, I can actually go on a date.’ And so I go out, and I strike out four nights in a row, drinking at a bar and ending up home, you know, drunk,” Penn told reporters. Unfortunately for Penn, that life was unfulfilling. Even in his most difficult times, there was a steadiness to knowing he had a partner waiting at home. Penn needed to make some changes.

It’s not uncommon for people to turn to new hobbies in the aftermath of a divorce. For Penn, that didn’t mean restoring old vehicles, but rather became passionate about politics and philanthropy. “I said [to myself], ‘I could just go sit in the middle of the bed and watch TV at four in the afternoon, too. I don’t have anything.’ My daughter’s … doing her thing, my son’s with his mother. So I turned on the TV and there was this earthquake in Haiti.”

Penn needed a healthier outlet for his pent up feelings, and activism proved to be the perfect outlet. A friend of his shared, “He used to drink a lot, and that got him into trouble. These days, he channels his aggression toward politics and trying to institute change. Being involved with Haiti really humbled him, and he’s even managed to cultivate a friendship with Madonna.” Penn even went so far as to start his own non-profit, but it still wasn’t enough to sooth his broken heart.

Penn wasn’t going to let his heartbreak define his life, despite the intense sadness he felt. Though he said to Esquire magazine, “There is no shame in saying that we all want to be loved by someone. As I look back over my life in romance, I don’t feel I’ve ever had that. I have been the only one that was unaware of the fraud in a few of these circumstances blindly,” what Penn really needed was a new lease on love.

Shortly before their marriage, Penn took some time to see other women as he grappled with his tumultuous love to Robin. During a break in the mid-90s, Penn began to pursue yet another talented, blonde bombshell, the singer songwriter, Jewel. Rumors whirled when headlines broke that Penn would be directing the music video for Jewel’s song “You Were Meant For Me”. Jewel finally confessed to the affair in her memoir, Never Broken – Songs Are Only Half The Story.

After Jewel was interviewed by Conan O’Brien, Penn decided to contact the singer to ask her to write a song for his film Crossing Guard, which was released in 1995. “I was twenty or so, something like that, and my dad thought it was a prank caller and hung up on him several times,” she told Access Hollywood, during an interview on her press tour for her memoir. “He had to keep calling back.” Penn wouldn’t rest until Jewel had agreed to write the song.

Jewel shared that their affair started off strictly professional, sharing that “he wasn’t flirty right away, he was business.” Jewel was still an up and coming musician at the time, so Sean’s admiration meant a lot to the young singer. Penn showed a facility with music, and she valued his opinion professionally. In turn, he flew her to France and Italy where he connected her with many industry players. In fact, Jewel called Penn, “very sweet” in recalling their time together.

Jewel wrote in her book, “Sean was very sweet, and it was a time in my career when nobody believed in me … But he really believed in me, and having that really meant a lot.” Though their relationship wasn’t particularly profound, her liaison with Sean helped her at a critical point of her career. Jewel’s influence was also beneficial to Penn, who needed an infusion of affection at the time, and being around the innocent rising star soothed him.

Sean continued his streak of seeking out A-list actress, when he began an under the radar tryst with Scarlet Johansson. The two were first caught cozying up to one another in a restaurant where photographers found them sitting with Johansson’s foot in Penn’s lap. They finally went public when they arrived together for the White Hose Correspondents’ Dinner. The relationship didn’t last, however, as Penn was still healing from his divorce, and wasn’t looking for something as serious as Scarlett was.

Sean Penn has played a variety of roles throughout his career, with such ease that oftentimes, fans forget that he is not a person in his own right, but rather the character he is playing. When news broke that he had acted violently towards his first wife, Madonna, many fans couldn’t conceive that the actor they knew and loved had acted in such a way. That’s why it’s so important to separate an actor with their work, or even oftentimes, their public persona.

Penn had another publicized outburst that came seemingly out of nowhere while on a movie set. Penn was looking to avoid publicity, so was quite dismayed with the paparazzi wouldn’t relent. He became angry, swinging at the photographer, for which he was later apprehended. A judge sentenced Penn to 60 days in jail, but he was released after only 33 days. Not long after this situation, Madonna filed a petition for divorce, but ultimately decided to withdraw it for the time being.

According to a tabloid report that was released in January 1989 by the British gossip outlet, The People, Madonna had been seen in the E.R. The report claimed that Madonna had been attacked by her then husband, and claimed he had tied her to a chair. While the reports seem too outrageous to be true, the Malibu police acknowledged the story to the reporter, Peter Kent, making it probable that Penn had gotten into some sort of dispute with Madonna.

The report exaggerated the incident, writing “she is said to have been ‘frothing at the mouth’ when horrified staff freed her at 1 am on New Year’s Day.” The tabloid continued, “Madonna was weeping. Her lip was bleeding, her spirit was crushed. She was marked and sore where he had cracked her across the face.” Of course, the report wasn’t exactly sharing the truth, which makes Penn’s publicist’s nonchalance regarding the spat a little more understandable. Still, Madonna was done.

Madonna asked for a divorce once again, but this time was determined to go through with the separation. Nearly twenty years later, she was finally ready to speak out about what had really happened. Her statement explained that they had kept the intimate details of their relationship to themselves, as most regular couples would, though both Penn and Madonna can understand why the public is so keen to know every last detail about the private lives of the biggest celebrity couples.

Madonna was ready to set the record straight regarding the allegations against Penn from the time of their marriage. According to the Daily Mail, “The 57-year-old pop star said reports that Penn had struck her in 1987 and that he had tied her up and beat her in 1989 were false.” In an interview with ET, Madonna told the press that the story that had been reported in 1989 was, “completely outrageous, malicious, reckless, and false.” However tense their relationship may have been, they both managed to move on.

Penn found love once more in another talented blonde, Charlize Theron, whom he began a relationship with in December 2013. The romance was a whirlwind, which seems to be the passionate Penn’s style, and after only a year and a half together, the A-listers announced an engagement. In the face of their open affection for one another, rumors had swirled that they were even considering adopting a child. Penn was overjoyed, telling reporters, “Charlize is not my girlfriend. She’s the love of my life.”

At first it seemed that Charlize felt the same, but it quickly became apparent that the pace of their passion was too much for Theron to bear. Despite calling herself lucky to have found someone like Penn, she suddenly said she needed “a breather.” Fans who had followed the couple were puzzled, not understanding how the relationship could have gone south so quickly. Theron’s eventual statement read, “We were in a relationship and then it didn’t work anymore. And we both decided to separate. That’s it.”

Though the coupling ultimately didn’t last, the puppy love between Madonna and Sean Penn may not have been fully extinct. At least, Madonna was opening to broaching the subject again in 2016, though she had never even discussed the idea with Penn himself. While it’s refreshing that the two have managed to reconcile after all of these years, the idea that Madonna would remarry Penn was absurd, even for someone like Madonna, who is known for her dramatic quirks.

Madonna made the announcement in front of a whole host of other celebrities at a charity gala to benefit Art Basel in Miami. Madonna is a fierce advocate of the arts, so the gala was an important evening for the pop star. She was determined to raise as much money as possible from the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Bethenny Frankel, and of course, her ex husband Sean Penn. While standing onstage, she made her proposal, stunning everyone who was in the room.

Madonna strut across the stage, with the same attitude and confidence that had made her a star in the first place. She was mostly selling her own jewelry and art, but some of the prizes were more coveted than others. Leonardo DiCaprio had offered up a week in his home in Palm Springs, California, which many people were clamoring to win. Another popular item was a custom designed car for which Madonna herself served as the muse. The auction was proceeding smoothly, until Madonna began to reminisce.

Madonna had advertised that the auction would be “an evening of music, art, and mischief,” in addition to a fundraiser for her non profit, Raising Malawi. The real housewife, Bethenny Frankel, pulled out her phone just in time to document Madonna pulling her ex-husband onstage in a stunt she hoped would raise the value of the jewelry she was currently auctioning. She couldn’t have known at that moment just how popular the move would prove to be.

Madonna’s performance wasn’t limited to her stage presence, as she used her wardrobe to complement the items she was trying to auction off. Clad in a tutu made out of squares of metallic tulle that showed off her golden locks, Madonna’s look add the perfect element of drama to the surprise that was about to come. The audience sat watching the long separated lovers reuniting right then and there, as Madonna embraced her former spouse. No one knew what to make of their apparent coziness.

Madonna had an angle in mind when she invited Penn to join her onstage. As she was in the midst of auctioning off a necklace for $150,000 she added in that she would once again tie the knot with him, were he to place the winning bid. Penn was blindsided by the offer, but thought it was an amusing bonus to the gala. As deftly as an expert improvisor, Penn agreed to her proposal, but more surprises were in the works.

Penn felt disbelief wash over him as the bridal march began to play over the sound system, to which Madonna was dancing along. Madonna was quite comfortable with the intimate dance Penn was being subjected to in front of the entire audience. Madonna took no heed that her 11 year old son, David, was there watching the tantalizing display that was complete with a pair of handcuffs Madonna had brought along. However, the spoof on marriage wasn’t the only trick up Madonna’s sleeve.

Madonna was ready to make light of the allegations that had plagued their marriage so many years ago. Handcuffs on, she teased, “The many moments that were our marriage,” in an allusion to the rumors the tabloid spun regarding their divorce. Even those who had chosen not to engage in the rumor mill couldn’t ignore the implications of Madonna’s display. Penn’s public perception had been colored by the 1989 report, and to some, it seemed prudent to not even joke about the supposed incident.

Madonna couldn’t help but take it one step further. The audience held their breath as Madonna admitted, “I’m still in love with you.” Penn was dumbstruck. Coupled with his shock at her admission, he turned around, only to find himself face to face with an enlarged version of their wedding photos, which had been taken by Herb Ritts in 1985. The pictures were a reminder of the sweet, early days of their relationship when they felt their love could overcome anything.“I love my first wife very much,” Penn admits his feelings about Madonna after 30 years.

Many magazines wanted to make more of their onstage reunion, assuming that they must be more than friends if they were willing to engage in that display, but it’s more likely that the opposite is true; if they were involved with one another romantically at this time, they would not have participated in such an over the top farce while their peers were watching in person. Though Penn had been willing to make the donation Madonna requested, he found himself outbid by others.

Kate del Castillo, an actress from Mexico who is best associated with her starring role on the telenovela Muchachitas accompanied Penn on a trip to Mexico sometime in 2015. Castillo alleged that she and Penn had a meeting with the kingpin, Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. Castillo is known for her wild lifestyle, but after the trip she began circulating rumors that Penn was trying to ruin her career. In turn, she released information to the press about their private lives.

Castillo had been planning to release a documentary series on Netflix with the working title The Day I Met El Chapo: The Kate del Castillo Story, but felt that Penn had taken action to obstruct her plans. Castillo intended the documentary to tell a fictionalized version of her relationship with Penn, which she called a “a fascinating story”, though they hadn’t had any kind of romantic interaction prior to taking their trip. It’s not surprising that Penn would not want to encourage a film like that.
